Odor Control

Wee Cleaner- Pet Urine Odor Remover

Escaping from confinement, the tomcat bolted down the stairs. Under the cover of darkness, he power-washed the living room, spraying his urine on anything he could reach. The pungent smell traveled throughout the house upsetting the resident cats.

Coming into the room to discover what trouble was brewing, the smell sent me reeling back. Tomcat urine is quite potent. The military would do well to make it a weapon of mass destruction!

Retrieving my black light, I doused the lights and swept the light over the room. I saw the telltale glow covering my file cabinets, books, paneling and carpet. He had even left his pee graffiti on our ceiling! My own feline stealth bombers were investigating the areas he left. When I saw the familiar quiver and tails starting to rise, I knew I had to act quickly.

I grabbed up the latest product for removal of cat urine odor- Wee Cleaner Following the green glow reflected from the black light, I marked all the places outlining them with masking tape. Switching on the lights and viewing the long trail of tape, I knew my work was cut out for me. I just hoped Wee Cleaner would live up to the challenge. Using rubber gloves (the caution on the container said it might cause irritation to sensitive skin) I set to work. With a spray bottle, I liberally covered all areas with a generous amount of Wee Cleaner. Then, I let the areas air dry.  Because I share my home with multiple cats, when it comes to odor removers, I have a long history  with the products available. On the market today dozens of pet urine odor removers that use  stronger scents to remove the initial smell of pet urine from what humans can smell exist. Only a handful of odor removers effectively removes the odor so the cats can’t smell it. There are over 200 million smell-detecting cells in a cat’s nose. When they smell intruder cat urine, their response is to cover the area with their own spray. It can be a vicious cycle to break.

When you deal with multiple cats, urine in your carpet, your walls or even your ceiling, can become quite a battle.

24 hours after the application of Wee Cleaner, there were no repeat attacks. Wee Cleaner is biodegradable- phosphate free and feline-friendly. No animal testing is involved with the making of this product. No dyes are used. You will need to the test the surfaces being treated first to check for color steadfastness. Place a small amount in an inconspicuous area and wait 24 hours to see what develops. Do not use Wee Cleaner on metal surfaces, silks, leathers and non-colorfast surfaces as discoloration may occur. When it comes to combating urine odor, I am relieved to have Wee Cleaner added to my arsenal.

Say Farewell to old urine stains

There are virtually thousands of cat-related products available over the Internet. When it comes to cat pee, you can find enzyme sprays and powders, special litter pans and litters, pheremone dispensers, blacklights to detect old cat urine. Cat urine is extremely hard to get rid of once it has set into the walls, because it becomes virtually invisible

Not anymore- Spray Alert Alarm has arrived!

The unit is compact, and easy to use. It consists of an electronic alarm unit, that resembles a small thermostat and a spray sensor strip and connector jack .

When a cat sprays a spot, the cat will generally return about every three days to refresh the scent. If you have more than one cat in your home, with alpha tendencies, those cats will spray their urine over the existing one, in a territorial dispute. It can get pretty smelly. It can also be frustrating in multi-cat homes to find the “culprit.”

The Spray Alert Alarm makes the job much easier!

The premise is this; you set the unit up, putting the sensor strip into the spray area, and keeping the unit connected but out of the spray.

When the sprayer comes into the room, the minute the urine hits the sensor, an alarm sounds. The alarm although loud is not piercing. I could clearly hear it in every room of our two-story home.

If you are home, you can go immediately into the room, capture up the culprit, contain him/her in a carrier or the bathroom, and clean up the urine. Then you can hustle the cat off to the vet.

Should you be out of the home when the cat sprays, the alarm will sound, but after a bit will stop. When you return home and check the unit, if the blinking light is red and not green, then you have fresh urine in the room. Clean the mess up with ezyme cleaners and hope that next time you are home to discover which cat is doing the deed

Cats spray for many reasons. Unneutered males are notorious sprayers, but females can spray as well. They spray when they are stressed, when they are sick, before a fight, or during mating season.

You want the vet to check first for any type of bacterial infection in the bladder, including low-grade infections or crystals

I love this product! We have had a problem in our bedroom for months. Then I stumbled onto this website http://www.sprayalert.com and decided to give it a try

The morning after it was set up, the alarm sounded. I quickly went into the room, and scooped up Squirrel, the only cat in the room at the time. Squirrel is one of my spayed females. She went to the vet’s office that day. It turned out that due to a previous stressful incident, she now had a bladder infection. She was put on clavamox

The only drawback to this product is that if you install it in your bedroom, prepare for a light show after the lights are off!

I solved the problem by placing a small round band-aid over the light at night.

I cannot recommend this product highly enough.

“Bugged by Litter Box Odor? CityPet Ionic Air Purifier is A Breath of Fresh Air”

Resembling a huge prehistoric beetle in its sleek design, CityKitty Ionic Cat Litter Box Air Purifier, is a small unit performing a large job.  Undertaking the much-needed task of ridding your home of unpleasant odors, and cleansing the area around the litter box of harmful bacteria caught in the air, this unit is an invaluable asset to any pet owner.  Once I plugged the unit in and set it on the floor, my two kittens became consumed with curiosity about this new marvel.  Were it not for the Velcro tabs that mount the unit securely in place, I am sure that Taz, the more inquisitive of the pair, would have pulled it off into the corner to investigate it, in her own thoroughly charming kitten way.    The Ionic Air Purifier, is carefully designed; effective when  set outside the litter pan or on the floor, or shelf, it continues to work, moving its ionic breeze around the room, ridding it of pet dander, airborne particles and other hidden irritants.  Electronically powered ions and ozone circulate into the air, aiding any pet or human who might be afflicted with allergies or breathing problems, by remarkably removing any clay dust or other irritants from the area.   This is one of its most efficient features how the ions work to create a heaviness in the clay dust, keeping the clay dust down, so your cat does not inhale unhealthful bacteria, and other harmful disease-causing agents. Perhaps this explanation will help to further illustrate this. Your television screen attracts dust; due to the high voltage of the picture tube charging the dust particles and making them act like a magnet. Well in the same way, the clay dust in your litter carries a positive charge, so the ions are attracted to this dust. As the ions saturate the air they circulate and follow a path that lands them in the billions on the clay litter causing it to become weighted down. Even when your cat disturbs this union, by scratching and pawing to cover up his waste, the two charged particles stay together and keep the dust heavy, and out of the cat’s lungs. This can go a long way in preventing upper respiratory infections that plague many household pets, and substantially lower your vet bills! If you or your children are afflicted with asthma or allergies, this unit will bring relief, for it has been proven to be a beneficial health product!  My cat room houses several litter boxes, and after plugging in the unit, the difference in the air quality a few hours later was phenomenal! Even right after the litter pan was utilized, there was no disagreeable odor lingering in the air.  I also noticed an absence of dust that I can usually see that settles on the bookcase near the litter pan area.   If you happen to be fighting a mold problem, this unit will help you attack the mold and mildew; so multiple units are a benefit to any home. The unit is reasonably priced, and so compact, that it is easy to tuck it away out of sight while helping to keep your home smelling fresh and clean. Gone are the multiple cans of harmful air fresheners and sprays, and no more burning scented candles to mask the smell. For homes that are blessed with more than one cat, the cat loving owners will no longer be cursed with that one irritating question asked by guests as soon as they step through the front door:   “How many cats did you say you had again?”   http://www.citypet.com/

Tuff Oxi™ for Pets

When it comes to products that claim to be the best solution for pet stains and odors, you have to color me a bit skeptical. Because of the tremendous amount of cats that pass through our home on their way to other adoptable families, cat pee and odor is a huge concern. I have tried most of the products on the market, only finding a few that deliver what they claim. Tuff Oxi™ arrived here a few weeks ago. Its job was one of the toughest around. Helping me rid the upstairs room of old- set-in cat pee stains.

Under the black light- the carpet upstairs glowed as green as the phosphorescent substances in the oceans. With the recent arrival of four tomcats who shared the space upstairs, the carpet took a real spraying. I was prepared to have to ditch the carpet, the pad and maybe even part of the floorboards in order to save the room. But, I decided to give Tuff Oxi™ a try first.

Using the light for guidance, I marked off each area with masking tape, noting the worst victim to be our computer chair that showed dribbles, pools and lines of dried cat pee. When the lights came back on, the chair got a thorough soaking of Tuff Oxi.™

Tuff Oxi™ for pets comes in a granulated form. The directions for mixing it up should be followed to the letter. Don’t add more granules even for the tougher jobs. The product needs to breathe, so when mixing in a spray bottle, don’t cap the spray bottle tightly, or the mixture could over-flow. Mix only what you need for the job, don’t leave any extra mixture in a tightly capped spray bottle.

For the tougher stains, use the Strong Dilution instructions. If you use Tuff Oxi™ on dark carpet, spot check it first for color-fastness. The mixture can discolor some surfaces. Tuff Oxi™ is environmentally friendly and safe to use around children and pets. It breaks down tough stains into harmless oxygen, water and sodium carbonate.

The upstairs room is now in better shape. Most of the stains are gone, but more importantly, the odor has vanished. I have since used Tuff Oxi™ in my laundry, and on the tile floor near the litter pans where accidents sometimes do occur.

Tuff Oxi™ can be purchased off their website www.tuffproductsforpets.com  or by emailing info@tuffproductsforpets.com

It’s definitely a front-runner in the battle of pet stains for this multi-cat household.
